All tips have been tested, still I take no responsibility, as some of the procudres described here may cause a malfunction, if not preformed correctly

General tips

receiving faxes, e-mails and sms directly to the memory card

for this procedure, I would recommend using “file explorer”

The example shown is for received faxes, but it works just the same with messages or mail

1.The directories: Received faxes, Received messages & Received mail are placed under B:\NOKIA\DOCUMENT\ directory

2.Create the same exact directories under A:\NOKIA\DOCUMENT , for example: A:\NOKIA\DOCUMENT\Received faxes (with a capital R)

3.Move all your faxes from B: to A: (to memory card)

4.Delete Received faxes directory

These settings will be removed after format (shift+tab+f)

Wap problem fix

When setting up wap, if using an IP adr. containing zero signs before other numbers, for example: The communicator, establishes a connection, starts downloading the pages at extra slow speed, and then disconnects. The fix to this problem is to remove these zero signs, so the above example would look like this:

INS files

Creating INS files

Nokia 9110 installation pack include the GEOS program files (000, geo) and an .ins file, which contains the positioning instructions of the GEOS files on the 9110.

The .ins file is constructed of 3 parts: header, installation description and GEOS paths.

<GEOS Package Description File v1.0>

The header is the same for all .ins files

Installation description

<Software name>

<Software description>

<Installation file size>

A dot separates the “installation description” part for the “GEOS paths” part

GEOS paths

<File name>

<Destination folder & name>

Example: WAP services .ins file

GEOS Package Description File v1.0

WAP services

Known paths

world\svcapps\ - internet menu

world\sysapps\ - system menu

world\extrapps\ - extra menu

Privdate\language\english\help\ - help files

System\ - system files, the actual program (geo)

1.Rename all filenames to small letters, and shorten them to 8 chars or less: MyApplication.ins -> myapp.ins

2.By changing these paths programs can be set to start from different menus, for example: “Find” from extra.

AOS files

AOS files are TAR files (unix compressed files) with a different extension.

AOS files enable the user to install applications directly from the 9110 browser (without the use of pc suite).

It is possible to store AOS files and to install them off line.

AOS file creation

1.Choose the installation files (ins, geo, etc…).

2.Pack them into a ZIP file.

3.Download zip2aos and use it to convert the ZIP file into an AOS file.

WWW Tips

Storing AOS files & installing them off-line

1.Transfer the AOS file from a PC (using file transfer in pc suite).

2.Place the file in “own text”, “downloaded files” or on the memory card.

3.In order to install the file, go to WWW and write:
file:///filename.aos in the address line.

4.Press go and then install

Creating extra folders in WWW

Internet->www->menu->create folder

Storing and viewing HTML files, off-line

1.While surfing the web, menu->save->copy HTML

Be sure to name the file filename.htm and not html.

2.To view the files, write
file:///filename.htm at the WWW address line.

Font tips

Font installation

1.Some font installation files are available at my site.

2.The fonts are installed as applications, using install/remove.

3.After installation the 9110 must be rebooted, in order for the files to be updated in the system.

4.In order to remove the fonts download the remove file from my site.

5.Never install more then 3 fonts at a time.

6.The font files must be GEOS fonts with .fnt extension, I am able to convert TRUETYPE (windows) fonts into GEOS fonts, so if you want a specific one, let me know.

7.These font can be used by “notes” application, however it is possible to set the 9110 to use this font for all the menus by using “init” file editor.

Creating your own font installation files

Create an .ins file, containing:

GEOS Package Description File v1.0

Font name

Font description

Font size

Creating font removal files

Create an empty file (zero length file).

Create another .ins file that will replace the installed font file with this file.

Actually, this procedure does not delete the font file, but replace it with a zero length file, that way the system no longer recognizes it as a font file.

Smart messaging

Smart messaging specifications

Smart messaging enables you to send advanced configuration setting to the 9110 via SMS.
The SMS is constructed of 3 parts: Header, text message and configuration settings.

The header contains the signs: //, a standard - SIAP or a narrow band - SCKL socket specification
and the port number.
For example:

text message

The second line contains a text message, which is shown when the configuration message is received

configuration settings
All other lines, contain the actual configuration settings, which contain: the setting type,
the sign ':' and the settings
For example:

Internet access point settings

Header: //SIAP11 or //SCKL157F
Iname - the name of the acces point
Itel - access number
Iuid - user name
Ipwp - prompt password
Ipwd - password
Ippo - proxy port Idns1 - primary nameserver (DNS)
Idns2 - secondry nameserver (DNS)

For example:
Access point settings

mail box settings

Mname - access point name (a smart messaging access point must exist
Mid - mailbox name
Muid - user name
Mpwd - password
Madr - e-mail
Msnd - sending host
Mrcv - recieving host
Mpro - mail protocol (POP or IMAP)

For example:
my mailbox

.INI manipulation

Changing the system settings, using "init file editor" could be risky, and may cause the 9110 to hang and a "format" will be reqired, I advise you to make a backup before proceeding, and in any case, do it at your own risk!!

By using "init file editor", the user is able to cheange some system setting, that are otherwise non-accesible.

The Nokia "init file editor" is not available for download due to premission issues.

The only legal way of getting it, is by ordering the free  SDK  from Nokia.

After receiving the CD, find the ini.geos file and build it an INS file.

Extended font use
Only use GEOS font, even then not all fonts will function

In order to use the installed font at the 9110 menu font: 1.Install the font.

2.Use "init file editor" to set:

  • Ui->editabletextfontid->fontname
    • Ui->editabletextfontsize->needed size
    • Ui->fontid->fontname
    • Ui->fontsize->needed size
    • System->fontid->fontname
    • System->fontsize->needed size
3.Reboot the communicator.

Change startup application

Whenever the communicator reboots, "phone" application starts automaticaly.
It is possible to set another application to start, instead of "phone".

1.Start "init file editor."
2.Replace the value in uiFeatures->defaultLauncher.
3.Reboot the communicator.

It is crucial to spell right, and to choose valid .geo application files, otherwise the 9110 might hang at startup!!!
